Texas Sheet Cake
Ingredients
For Cake
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 cup water
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 FGF pasture raised eggs
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tsp baking soda
For Icing
- 1 stick butter
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 6 tbsp milk
- 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
To make the cake
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Bring butter, water, and cocoa powder to a boil.
- Meanwhile, in a large bowl, assemble the flour, sugar, salt, eggs, sour cream, and baking soda.
- After the first 3 ingredients boil add them to the bowl with the flour/sugar mixture and mix with hand mixer.
- Pour into a greased pan and bake for 25 minutes.
To make the icing
- Bring the butter, cocoa powder and milk to a boil.
- Then add the sifted powdered sugar slowly and mix in with the cocoa mixture.
- Add in the vanilla extract. Stir well and pour over cake hot.
- Note: I often make a double batch of icing and pour on cake for a more fudgy cake.
Notes
Cake is best held cold in the refrigerator or in the freezer.
